As an avid traveler, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring countless destinations. But there’s something truly special about starting your Lake Como adventure from Milan. Most international visitors to Lake Como arrive at Milan Malpensa Airport, a major international hub that connects the region to cities worldwide. Once you’ve landed in Milan, you’ll discover that the city is incredibly well-connected to the rest of Italy. The Italian railway system is efficient and extensive, with high-speed trains (Frecciarossa) connecting Milan (Stazione Centrale) to major cities like Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples. This makes it easy for italian (or visiting tourists) to reach Lake Como via Milan.

Your exciting train ride: next stop, Bellagio

If you’re aiming for the iconic towns of Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio, you’ll want to take the train to Como San Giovanni station (western side). For those interested in the quieter, less-touristy eastern side of the lake, the train to Lecco is your best bet (eastern side). Anyway, the train will come handy not only to reach the region but even to move between cities. Here the ideal 1-day trip from Milan to Lake Como by Train.
